કચ્છના દરિયાકાંઠે દરિયાઈ સોનું (અંબર) મળી આવે છે!
વિશ્વમાં પ્રાણી જગતની કેટલીક અજાયબીઓમાં એક છે સ્પર્મ વ્હેલ. ભારેખમ આ દરિયાઈ જીવે એના શરીરમાં પેદા થતા એક સુગંધી પદાર્થને કારણે જીવ ખોયો છે. સ્પર્મ વ્હેલના શરીરમાં પેદા થતો સુગંધી પદાર્થ સદીઓ સુધી વણઓળખાયેલો રહ્યો હતો. જોકે સૌ પહેલાં એને દરિયાખેડૂઓ અને માછીમારોએ જોયો હોવાનું કહેવાય છે, જે અંબર અથવા ઍમ્બર ગ્રીસ તરીકે ઓળખાય છે. આ પદાર્થને દરિયાઈ સોનું પણ કહેવાય છે. વિશ્વનાં બજારોમાં એની ઊંચી કિંમત આવે છે. માંડવી, અબડાસા અને લખપતના દરિયાકાંઠે ચૈત્ર, વૈશાખ માસમાં આ પદાર્થ કાંઠે તણાઈ આવે છે. એને ઓળખનારા મેળવી લે છે, પણ એના વેચાણ પર પ્રતિબંધ હોવાથી એના વિશેની માહિતી બહાર આવતી નથી.
અંબર ગ્રીસ અથવા અંબર વિશે બહુધા લોકો અજાણ છે. એની ઉત્પતિ અને એના ઉપયોગોથી પણ અજાણ છે. અંબર ગ્રીસ ઘેરો લીલો, લીલાશ પડતો પીળો અથવા રાખોડી રંગનો હોય છે. આ પદાર્થ વિશે ભારતની બજારમાં કોઈ માહિતી આપવા તૈયાર હોતું નથી. અંબર મોટા ભાગે મોંઘા પરફ્યુમ બનાવતી કંપનીઓ ખરીદે છે. ઉપરાંત એ દવાઓની બનાવટ તેમ જ માલિશ કરવાના તેલમાં વપરાય છે. મનુષ્યના આંતરડાની નબળાઈ દૂર કરવા, નર્વ સિસ્ટમ સ્થિર કરવામાં, ઘડપણ આવતું અટકાવવા, શરીરની નબળાઈ દૂર કરવા, ઉન્માદ જેવી માનસિક બીમારીઓમાં પણ વપરાય છે. હોમ્યોપથી દવાઓમાં ‘અંબર ૩૦’ નામની દવા પણ છે. આ પદાર્થ વિશે ભારતીય સમાજમાં કેટલીક માન્યતાઓ પ્રવર્તે છે. અંબર વિશે લોકો ત્યાં સુધી કહે છે કે એનું સેવન કરવાથી વૃદ્ધ મનુષ્યને નવી યુવાની ફૂટે છે.
પશ્ચિમ કચ્છના સાગરકાંઠાનાં કેટલાંક ગામોના અમુક લોકો અંબરને પેઢી દર પેઢીથી ઓળખે છે, પરંતુ તેમને કોઈ એ વિશે પૂછે તો માહિતી આપતા નથી. ભારતીય કાયદાઓ મુજબ ઘરમાં અંબર રાખવું અથવા એને વેચવું એ ગુનો ગણાતો હોવાથી જેને મળે છે તેઓ કોઈને જાણ કરતા નથી. તેમની પાસેથી ખરીદનારા ચોક્કસ લોકો હોય છે. આ ખરીદ-વેચાણ એટલું ગુપ્ત હોય છે કે કોઈને જરાસરખી ગંધ આવતી નથી. 1478કચ્છમાં અંબર ગ્રીસના ૧૦ ગ્રામના ૧૫થી ૨૦,૦૦૦ રૂપિયા મળે છે અને ખરીદનારા એને એનાથી ઊંચા ભાવે વેચે છે. કચ્છમાં અત્યાર સુધી આ બાબતો કોઈના ધ્યાને આવી નથી, કારણ કે આ કોઈ હેતુપૂર્વકની ગુનાહિત પ્રવૃતિ નથી, પરંતુ એક કુદરતી પ્રક્રિયાનો આડલાભ છે. જે લોકો અંબરને ઓળખે છે તેઓ ખાસ કરીને ચૈત્ર અને વૈશાખ મહિનામાં વહેલી સવારે દરિયાકાંઠે જાય છે.
