જાણીતા લેખક, એક્ટર, ફિલ્મ ડાયરેક્ટર અને રંગમંચની ખુંખાર હસતી એટલે ગિરીશ કર્નાડ. ગિરીશ કર્નાડનું સોમવારે 81 વર્ષની ઉમરે નિધન થયું. તે ઘણા સમયથી બિમાર હતા. બેંગલુરુમાં તેમણે છેલ્લા શ્વાસ લીધા. ગયા મહિને જ તેમણે પાતાનો 81મો જન્મદિવસ ઉજવ્યો હતો. પદ્મ શ્રી અને પદ્મ વિભુષણ જેવા એવોર્ડોથી એમને સ્નમાનિત કરવામાં આવેલા હતા.
કર્નાડની છેલ્લી ફિલ્મ ‘ટાઈગર જિંદા હે’ હતી. તેમાં તેમણે RAW ચીફ ડોક્ટર શેનોયનો રોલ અદા કર્યો હતો. ફિલ્મમાં તે સલમાન ખાનનાં સિનિયરનાં રોલમાં હતા. આ ફિલ્મનાં શુટિંગ દરમિયાન પણ તે બિમાર જ હતા. આ વખતે પણ ડોક્ટરોએ તેમણે તડકામાં બહાર નિકળવાની મનાઈ કરી હતી.
ગિરીશ કર્નાડે તેનું પહેલું નાટક કન્નડમાં લખ્યું હતું કે જેનું અનુવાદ પાછળથી અંગ્રેજીમાં પણ થયું હતું. 1960માં કર્નાડે યતાતિ, 1964માં ઐતિહાસિક તુગલુક જેવા નાટકો લખ્યા કે જે ખુબ પ્રખ્યાત નાટકો છે. તો વળી તેની ત્રણ કૃતિ હયવદના 1971, નગા મંડલા 1988 અને તલેડેંગા 1990મા આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય સ્તરે ફેમસ થઈ હતી.
મોટા 2 પદ્મ સન્માનો સિવાય તેમને 1972માં સંગીત નાટક અકાદમી, 1994માં સાહિત્ય અકાદમી, 1998માં જ્ઞાનપીઠ પુરસ્કાર મળ્યો હતો. તેમજ કન્નડ ફિલ્મ સંસ્કાર માટે તેમને બેસ્ટ ડાયરેક્ટર તરીકેનો રાષ્ટ્રીય એવોર્ડ પણ મળ્યો હતો. આ ઘટનાં બાદ સમગ્ર બોલિવૂડમાં અને કન્નડ ફિલ્મ ઈન્ડસ્ટ્રીઝમાં શોકનો માહોલ છે.
